Try this: after the Battle for the Frozen Esper, make a party consisting only of Gau. Head to Kohlingen and buy Shadow's assistance for 3000 GP, then travel to the Veldt and make Gau Leap. After that, travel back to Narshe. As soon as you try to enter, Shadow will leave your party, which will then become empty, and thus you will be unable to move and have to reset. There are two ways to fix this bug: one is to apply Imzogelmo's patch, which forces Shadow to stay in your party if leaving would make it empty, but still prevents him from entering Narshe; the other is to apply my patch, which invokes the party selection screen if the party becomes empty this way.
